Find your future with us.The Boeing Company is seeking an Enterprise Senior Software Engineer - Compiler Expert to join our team in Mesa, AZ, Berkeley, MO, El Segundo, CA, Hazelwood, MO, Herndon, VA, Huntsville, AL, Long Beach, CA, Oklahoma City, OK, Plano, TX, or Ridley Park, PA.We are looking for someone with expertise on compiler internals, selection of optimization settings/levels with knowledge on subsequent auto-generated object code to join our kernel development team. This position requires deep understanding of software development, processor hardware architectures, and core compiler concepts (front-end and back-end optimization, code generation, cross-compiling).As a key technical leader on the kernel development team, you will work to deliver safety-critical capabilities leveraging compiler technology, for use across The Boeing Company. This position requires the candidate to have a full-stack mindset and be aware of continuous improvement of the software development environment, tools, and products utilized by the kernel development team.Position Responsibilities:Serve as a subject matter expert on compiler internals, optimization settings/levels with knowledge on subsequent auto-generated object code, system-specific tradeoffs, and compiler-related tools and implementation detailsGuide selection, customization, development, and ownership of the compiler technology utilized throughout the organizationMentor early-career software engineers to enhance career growthCreate and organize a well-defined, estimated and prioritized set of initiatives, epics and stories to maintain a robust software development backlog for time-phasing and planningParticipate in daily scrums, using agile practices, to communicate clearly and openly on incremental progress and to inform the team of any help needed on impediments and roadblocks and suggest timely remedies for common ailments during retrospectionsFoster a culture that supports diversity and inclusionThink critically, and is comfortable with minimally defined problem solvingEmbrace ambiguity and demonstrate willingness to changeThis position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry5+ years of experience with software development and/or troubleshooting software3+ years of experience implementing software using C/C++2+ years of experience using Linux operating systemsPreferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): Experience building, configuring, and customizing GCC and/or LLVM (clang front end)Rich understanding of modern processor architectures and instruction sets, e.g., Arm v8/v9Experience building, configuring, and customizing the Linux kernel and/or other operating systemsExperience with assembly, Perl, Python, Rust programming languagesExperience with software test tools such as gdb, gcovExperience with Safety-Critical / FAA DO-178C software certification and software level A object-code mappingExperience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS)Experience with real-time software development for avionics systemsContributor to open source software projectsExperience with compiler internals and implementation detailExperience with configuration management of diverse systemsMember of current/prior Agile development team(s)In depth understanding of C/C++Participation in total software development lifecyclePassion for open source projects and collaborationsTypical Education/Experience: - Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification.Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.Relocation: Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position.
