Job Description:

Job DescriptionScientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc. (SARA) is a world-class Defense Research and Development enterprise, with a charter to create technology innovations in support of Commercial & Government organizations. We have expertise in RF, EMP, Pulsed Power, Acoustics and Threat Warning Systems; partnering with our customers to address real world problems with cost effective solutions… that work. SARA, Inc. is looking for an experienced Signal Processing Algorithms Engineer to join its Artificial Perception and Threat Awareness (APTA) division, located in Cypress CA. As part of APTA, you will contribute to projects in the late R&D/pre-production/low-rate production phases of the product development lifecycle, some of which address drone navigation and safety, RF sensors on moving platforms, and hostile-fire warning. The selectee will have the chance to exercise his/her initiative, adaptability, drive, and of course, subject matter mastery in a fast-paced, highly technical environment. The chosen candidate will work alongside talented program managers, engineers, software developers, physicists, and technicians on long-term programs supporting the DoD, DoE, and their contractors. We are looking to grow our clan of signal processing and algorithm development gurus. As a Signal Processing Algorithms Engineer, you will conceive, design, and test the "brains" behind SARA's advanced sensors; from intelligently processing raw sensor inputs to constructing higher level awareness of the sensed world. The selectee will design simulations and analyze test data to constantly improve our designs. You will work closely with sensor experts, embedded programmers, and designers, to be jointly responsible for APTA's sensor developments. We expect our algorithm designers to think like mission/system architects, with a responsibility to study the detailed use-case and understand the mission of the sensor system they are working with, develop algorithms based on mission needs, and to suggest changes in use-case that favor sensor and algorithm capabilities. Do you enjoy applying math and algorithms to real world problems? Do you like working in a team comprised of intellectual, multidisciplinary people? Are you eager and quick to learn new methods? If so, then we would love to talk to you. Core Responsibilities:

  • Collaboration to discuss and break down challenges into components, the ability to independently work components, document, and present results to the team
  • Clear communication
  • Working in short design cycles, depending on the maturity of a design cycle, algorithm designers will be responsible for:
  • Analyzing sensor needs
  • Updating mission/sensor simulations
  • Exploring algorithm approaches
  • Evaluating prototype software
  • Verifying embedding software
  • Analyzing test data Requirements:
    • Master's degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant discipline, or equivalent work experience
    • Two (2) or more years of relevant work experience
    • Strong math background
    • Deep experience in digital signal processing algorithms
    • Familiar with sampling theory and frequency domain analysis
    • Mastery of digital filter design and experience using adaptive filters
    • Command of common algorithms such as Kalman Filters, particle filters, optimization and Bayesian methods
    • Mastery of both time and frequency domain beamformers or demonstrate the ability to rapidly learn them
    • Familiarity with common machine learning approaches, such as neural networks
    • A system-level and applications mindset
    • Ability to find definition in an otherwise amorphous challenge and decompose that challenge into smaller, more manageable ones
    • Familiarity with MATLAB and Simulink
    • Experience with ANSI C and C++
    • Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance
    • U.S. Citizenship Preferred Qualifications:
      • Interest and/or experience in physics or other engineering disciplines and areas outside of DSP
      • Embedded programming skills, including real time DSP and FPGA programming What's in it for you?
        • We offer health benefits (medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance)
        • A generous PTO program (vacation, sick, holiday)
        • Tuition & certification reimbursement
        • Flexible work schedules
        • Employee bonuses
        • 401(k)/profit sharing
